Mix the water and paint in a 1:1 ratio
When painting objects that are water-based, you must use water to make the paint wetted. This is due to the paint not giving enough room to spread as it drys.
Objects such as paintings, tables, and dressers must be painted with enough water to cover the object completely. If the paint does not have enough water to cover the object, it will run down and join the other paints in your project.
To make this look easy, you must do it right the first time! Start by having a little bit of warm water in your projects container and having a few drops of paint in your hand. Then, slowly add more water until all of the paint is wet.
Use quality paint
Most store bought paint will not easily flow with water. Some brands do not recommend being touched with water until they are dry. This is because these paints may bubble over and/or melt as it dries.
This does not mean that you cannot use such paint! It just needs to be checked before use to see if it has wetted or melted during storage or delivery. If so, it is likely a poor choice of paint that would not last long due to this lack of moisture resistance.
Other paints such as hot pink or red painted furniture can be mixed together if needed but check the color is still visible after some drying time.
Use a high-quality acrylic medium
When painting with water-based paint, it is important to use a medium that allows for easy pouring. An adequate amount of water will require a slight squeeze, allowing for an even coverage.
Some brands do not allow for easy pouring in some way, which can be problematic. If your paint does not easily pour, you may need to buy two brands of paint or try one brand less trusted due to the other being more thickly spread.
We recommend using tempera or acrylic mediums for painting with water-based paints. These are basically painted solutions that are mixed with water and allowed to dry before painting. Tempera is a common solution used for this reason!
Tempera does not allow for washing off of objects, making it better for traditional painting methods such as drawing or airbrush style drawing. Due to this, we recommend using this mix instead of only one type of paint.
Use distilled water
When painting with acrylic paint, you must use distilled water or tap water for the paint. This is due to the paint containing alcohol as a solvent.
Acrylic paint contains resveratrol as a preservative to prevent dryness. When painting, resveratrol migrates into the paint and into your paint container during production. It also may be present in the canvas itself, depending on its source country of origin.
So, when painting, ensure that you have poured enough acrylic paint for your project and then let it dry! Doing this will help prevent any migration of resveratrol into your project, and possibly save your paints from going brown from evaporation.
You can also place a piece of parchment tissue between the top of the panes and the water to prevent any splashback.
Mix the paint and water on a low heat setting
When painting, always start with a low heat setting paper mask to prevent burnishing or curling of the paint. This will also help you control any flow of paint or water from the nozzle.
Once the paint is dry, take it into another warm dry place for a few hours to check for water. If there is some remaining, let it dry before working with another piece of art.
When adding new paint layers, make sure they are set before you add more water. It can cause it to run away or fade away.
Let it sit and settle before using it
Acrylic paint has a slight liquid content that is due to the fact that it is made of cellulose acetate base. This makes it possible for the paint to soak up some water!
This does not apply to all brands of paint, so be sure to check your painting equipment. Some brands require mixed liquid and powder forms, while others can be used with or without water.
How much liquid you have left depends on how thick your painting wanted to be. Some artists recommend using less because it thinned out the paint slightly.
Shake before using it
When mixing acrylic paint for pouring with water, be sure to shake it well. This ensures that all of the paint is being absorbed into the water and that it is being mixed with enough liquid.
When painting models or crafts that require careful, monitored control of the brushstrokes, this can be done wrong. You will want to paint some areas of your model heavily and strongly, which will result in some wetness to the rest of the model.
If you do not mix your paint properly, you will get dry patches and cracks on your model due to lack ofing adequate coverage.
Use an airbrush for smooth coverage
If you are new to painting with waterizza, use an airbrush for smooth coverageú. The easiest way to use the airbrush is to first lay the paint on the can and then tap or brush the paint in a horizontal motion across the surface.
This creates the airbrushed look. Tap or brush the paint in a vertical motion to create effects like spray or dripping.
Use very little waterizza paint per color compared to other painting media such as oil Paint will take more of it!
Try keeping a reference guide book or computer software that provides colors and related ratios for safe mixing.
