Will polyurethane protect my painting?

While this sounds weird, it is true. Paint that is water-based will not stick to a ceramic surface. The solvents in the paint will not dry completely and stick to the ceramic, leaving visible marks.
The same goes for duochrome paints, which require a different kind of preparation to allow them to set. Adhesives can sometimes prevent these paints from coming off, causing an unnecessary delay in painting.
What should I put between the painting and the wall?
A good rule of thumb is to put an extra inch or two of acrylic paint on either side of the painted area. This allows for proper drying and transfers to the ceramic when you shake it.
